THE TALE OF SHITO
Oh Shito! brand products are made by Asare & Family LLC, established in 2019, by members of the Asare Family. The recipe for our savory pepper sauce has been passed down for generations and we are thrilled to share a part of our Ghanaian culture and family with you.
The word “shito” means pepper in Ga, a native Ghanaian language from Accra, the nation’s capital. Traditionally, the hot chili condiment was made from a blend of spices and fish which differed between different regions of Ghana, but was always popular and its uses adapted to that of a local ketchup or hot sauce.
Now, the Asare Family is sharing our cultural classic with the rest of the world. The black pepper sauce is carefully made with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, and brings a full range of spicy, smoky, and savory flavors to any dish.
Oh Shito! comes ready to use as a condiment, in a 8-oz. mason jar, with two flavored options—chicken and fish. Its many uses include adding flair to stews and soups, as well as its ability to be used as a marinate, vinaigrette, spread, topping for barbecue dishes or dip for French fries. It has been known to significantly enhance traditional Ghanaian meals, including waakye (rice and beans), steamed rice, fried yams, and chicken wings.
